Winter session is coming

oct. 22, 2020

slippery rock, pa. — as many college classes have migrated to the safety of online environments during the covid-19 pandemic, the "winter home" of classes at slippery rock university will be online where it always has been, offering students a convenient way to advance toward their degrees.

the winter session at sru this year takes place dec. 16, 2020, to jan. 11, 2021, as more than 1,800 students are expected to enroll in nearly 200 classes.

"as in years past, all winter session classes are offered online, making it a great opportunity for students to get ahead of schedule to graduate," said amanda yale, chief enrollment management officer. "it's also a chance for students who need to get back on track and earn the credits they need for their degree."

nearly three quarters of the winter session course offerings are at the undergraduate level and include both rock studies liberal arts classes and major courses. the other quarter of the classes are at the graduate level.

after a fall 2020 semester with approximately 80% of sru classes offered online, the winter session might seem like a new, viable option for students who previously did not consider online learning.

"we've always said the winter session is a great way for students to 'take the rock home with them' during the semester break, but this year, for many students, it's a great way to continue the momentum they've built as online learners," yale said. "our faculty and staff continue to enhance the way we deliver online classes and the winter session is a continuation of the solid education we offer."

registration for winter session begins oct. 26 for sru students and nov. 9 for students from other institutions, who, with permission, may transfer earned credits to their home institution. first-year and transfer students who had planned to start their sru experience in the spring semester are also eligible to enroll in the winter session.
